Salt and Sanctuary is a 2D action with role-playing elements developed by Ska Studios. ###Plot and art style The game follows an unnamed protagonist who escorts princess on a sail to her marriage in the distant country. The ship gets attacked by brigands that slay the whole crew and later gets destroyed by sea giant Kraekan resulting protagonist to find himself on a mysterious island. The hero must now find a way from the island and save lost princess. The game is notable for its hand-drawn watercolor art style with the dark and cold palette. ###Gameplay The gameplay is heavily inspired by From Software’s Souls series and Castlevania franchise. The game mixes traditional Metroidvania-style exploration with several game mechanics borrowed from Dark Souls. At the beginning of the game, the player chooses one of eight classes. The class affects initial equipment of the character and his starting skills. It does not, however, affect character’s stats or restrict him from acquiring any skills from the Skill Tree later in the game. The combat relies on different types of attacks, dodging, blocking and use of various abilities and items. There are more than 600 weapons, pieces of armor, disposable items and other equipment that can be found throughout the game. The game features local multiplayer, both cooperative and competitive.
