RPG in a Box Mini's are made with RPG in a Box, a tool for easily creating 3D grid-based, voxel-style RPGs and adventure games. What is Shogi / Japanese Chess? Shogi (将棋, shōgi, English: /ˈʃoʊɡi/,[1] Japanese: [ɕoːɡi]), also known as Japanese chess, is a strategy board game for two players. It is one of the most popular board games in Japan and is in the same family of games as Western chess, chaturanga, Xiangqi, Indian chess, and Janggi. In this game demo I will showcase a certain mechanic which is the drop rule in Shogi. Pieces that you captured from your opponent can be used in future moves. On your turn, you can choose to move a piece or drop/deploy a piece from your hand on to the board. I could not yet program the whole game of Shogi in this demo, so I thought I will show you guys how does someone solve a Shogi checkmate puzzle called Tsume Shogi! Tsume shogi (詰将棋 or 詰め将棋, tsume shōgi) or tsume (詰め) is the Japanese term for a shogi miniature problem in which the goal is to checkmate the opponent's king. Tsume problems usually present a situation that might occur in a shogi game (although unrealistic artistic tsume shogi exists), and the solver must find out how to achieve checkmate. It is similar to a mate-in-n chess problem.
